Letters from the Lighthouse — reading guide
Novel by Maren Holt: the first pages, questions for reading groups and a word about the author.
About the book
For one winter, a lighthouse keeper writes to a woman she has never met. The letters arrive in the wrong order, decades later.
The first pages
Dear stranger — I am told you will read this in the spring, if the boat comes, and if you exist. I have decided you do. It is easier to write to someone than to the sea, which never answers and does not care for my handwriting. The lamp is lit. The wind has the voice of an old man today, complaining about everything. I have three hundred and twelve stairs, one cat and no visitors. Tell me about your window.
For reading groups
- Who do you think the stranger really is?
- How does reading the letters out of order change the story?
- What does the lighthouse keep, besides the light?
About the author
